This instruction has not been done without considerable consideration and attention to where I am taking the students' learning and to how I am developing the critical thinking and processing skills they will need for all aspects of their on going education.
This past week has been a time of collecting information and reviewing with the students where they are currently standing academically.

Lesson: it took all class, but we finally got it! Got what? THE SIMPLE SENTENCE
The Simple Sentence
Subject
Predicate
Prepositional Phrase
. declarative
! exclamatory
? interrogative
Yes! This is what they know: The simple sentence is a complete thought as it contains a subject (noun/pronoun) and a predicate (verb). Please note we have not yet moved to the auxiliary/linking verb so they only have the ACTION verb set in their learning. A simple sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with one form of END PUNCTUATION. See above for more detail about what the forms of end punctuation are termed.
I taught the preposition and prepositional phrase in order for the students to understand how to remove some of the 'extra' words.
Simple sentences DO NOT have to contain a prepositional phrase!
