At the beginning of class all students must read a novel of their choosing - for the next week and a half, we will have access to the genre of MYSTERY!
Our learning tasks this week are:
- Began working on the concept of Annotation - this is a Reading Comprehension strategy that teaches/allows students to gain a 'way into the text' on a deeper level.  They connect with the text by being CURIOUS about what the writer is saying.  I handed out several pieces of paper that i) presented some commonly used annotating symbols ii) a sheet that fully explained and showed students what annotation does iii) a reading of the poem "Oranges" for them to practise on. This annotation practise was set for homework which 2 people completed

- Started digging into Idioms - a common yet somewhat difficult writing technique (especially if one is a 2nd language learner or someone who is not exposed to a great deal of writing (reading).  Students were given a task to complete and submit in 'GOOD COPY'.

Continued with learning about and practising the concept of Close Reading using Annotating. We explored a current non-fiction article about Feist's decision for leave the tour she was fronting for due to allegations that the lead singer was perhaps being sexually inappropriate with fans.  This was also checked for homework.
