Sept 12 - 16th English 9
Reading from Historical Fiction (all students have found something they are settled into - some
Historical Fiction; some not, but they are all engaged!)
Terms they have recorded in their booklets (and should know) idiom, verbal irony, genre, mystery, subject, predicate, proposition, denotation, connotation, mnemonic, acronym, oxymoron, juxtaposition, descriptive language (5 senses), foreshadowing, annotation, inferencing, epiphany, pathetic fallacy, theme
Annotating - moving on from the skill of Inferencing, I have introduced grade 9 to the concept of Annotating - we will be practising and using this skill a lot!
Reading the Short Story - "How to Tell Renata" (a perfect short story) by Linda Holeman - students bought into this story in a lovely way - Will be using a One Pager (have already given to students) to further explore their understanding of these concepts: symbol, foreshadowing, mood, theme, favourite one-liners (x2), title, author summary)
